Fonts and Troubleshooting

font-installation-troubleshooting.RmdMost users should not install fonts manually.
docdesigner ships the text and code fonts used by its
built-in PDF styles.
What the Package Bundles
The bundled fonts live in inst/fonts/ and are used
automatically by docdesigner::pdf.
Bundled font families:
- Source Serif 4
- EB Garamond
- XITS
- Fira Code
A style may declare additional families under
fonts.<Family> and ship the face files in its own
assets/fonts/ directory. Matching math fonts are optional;
when one is unavailable, the engine default is used instead of treating
it as a render failure.
Check Your Setup
Run:
docdesigner::designer_check()The check reports:
- bundled template path
- bundled fonts path
- bundled CSL path
- style bundle availability
rmarkdown- Pandoc
- common LaTeX engines
Local Editable Copies
Most projects should use bundled assets. If you deliberately keep local editable copies, refresh them with:
docdesigner::designer_update_templates()This updates:
docdesignertemplate.texdefault.cslfonts/sets/
To pull the latest assets from GitHub:
docdesigner::designer_update_templates(source = "github", branch = "main")Common Problems
If rmarkdown is missing, install it before
rendering:
install.packages("rmarkdown")If Pandoc is missing, install RStudio, Quarto, or Pandoc directly and
confirm that rmarkdown::pandoc_available() returns
TRUE.
If a LaTeX engine is missing, install a TeX distribution such as TinyTeX, MiKTeX, or TeX Live. Then rerun:
docdesigner::designer_check()If a project uses local assets and fonts are stale, run:
docdesigner::designer_update_templates(overwrite = TRUE)
